The main allies were the UK, France and the Soviet Union (Russia). Other allied forces were from Commonwealth nations, such as Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and from India.

Occupied countries such as Poland, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, China, Norway, and the Netherlands fought with Allied forces, as did smaller contingents from Brazil, Mexico, Ethiopia, Greece, and Yugoslavia.

After an armistice on September 8, 1943, Italy fought with the Allies against the Germans, who had established considerable forces within Italy.
