not all, but part of the original settlers were Puritan. but in actuality, the Colony had its own Magna Charter, which was NOT about religion, but about the community as if it were the state already.
Puritans were English Protestants who believed that the reforms of the Church of England did not go far enough. In their view, the liturgy was still too Catholic. Bishops lived like princes. Ecclesiastical courts were corrupt. Because the king of England was head of both church and state, the Puritans' opposition to religious authority meant they also defied the civil authority of the state.
In 1630, the Puritans set sail for America. Unlike the Pilgrims who had left 10 years earlier, the Puritans did not break with the Church of England, but instead sought to reform it. Seeking comfort and reassurance in The Bible, they imagined themselves re-enacting the story of the Exodus.
Arriving in New England, the Puritans established the Massachusetts Bay Colony in a town they named Boston. Life was hard, but in this stern and unforgiving place they were free to worship as they chose. The Bible was central to their worship. Their church services were simple. The organ and all musical instruments were forbidden. Puritans sang psalms a cappella.
Lyrics:
I used to rule the world
Chunks would load when I gave the word
Now every night I go stow away
Hide from the mobs I used to slay
They once were terrified
Every time I looked into their eyes
Villagers would cheer my way
For a hero I was, that's what they'd say
One minute we had it all
Next our world began to fall
Away from all that it had once become
They all cried for my help, but I stood there numb
I gaze off into the boundless skyline
Noteblock choirs playing in the sunshine
Turn 'round pick up my sword and wield
The blade that once forced evil mobs to yield
And hope one day that this chaos and
Destruction turns for the better
Never a bow in hand
And that was when I ruled the land
It was the creepers and Skeletons
Blew down the doors and boxed us in
Arrows whizzing by like streaks of light
I tried all that I could to stay and fight
As the undead roamed the street
Families broken at my feet
Life itself suspended by a thread
Oh, why is it that I wasn't dead
I gaze off into the boundless skyline
Noteblock choirs playing in the sunshine
Turn 'round pick up my sword and wield
The blade that once forced evil mobs to yield
If this battle should leave me slain
I know that Herobrine calls my name
Better to take a stand
And that was when I ruled the land
:P
I am not sure if you are asking about the Purtians, but will answer as if you did. The Purtians were a very strict faith and part of it was to take part in their colony a man had to be a member of the church. It does seem a contradiction, but many things are. Jefferson stated " all men are created equal " but owned slaves. The Purtians felt that they wanted to worship their way and part of that was to control who was active in their decisions.
He did not agree with punishing people for breaking the rules of the church.
cause pur. gave them what they w. and n ot n.on. puresss.
After the Purtians left the Netherlands they came to the New World to be able to live as they wished. Winthrop put all the political power in the hands of the stockholders and they had been critical of the Church of England. The reason they are called Purtians is that they wanted to purify the church of England from within. This brought strong resistance from the church, so to move to someplace else where they could do what they wanted was a logical thought. They believed that theirs was the true faith and that others were the work of the devil. They were not a tolerant people.
The Age of Reason was a period that came after the Purtians, seeing that in many respects, the Purtians were not 'reasonable' (Salem Witch Trials being a great example). The Great Awakening attempted to revive those strict and religious 'Puritan' sentiments. However, this kind of strict moral code could not last forever, and eventually softened. The Age of Reason marked the beginning of The Enlightenment, characterized by a rational approach to the world (think of all of the major scientific minds and philosophers in the late 18th century). Using logic, rather than ascribing everything to God's will as had been done during the time of the Puritans/The Great Awakening.
A ship used by the Purtians to come to establish a colony. There were 61 Purtians from the same Yorkshire village.
Mayflower
Thousands of Purtians didn’t come to the New World. The Mayflower held 102 people and 60 of them were Purtians from the same village in England.

The kinds of punishments were they would be a slave, get whipped, or be killed.
The Purtians beliefs were for a pure form of religious rites and services.
