The Pan Am Flight 103 disaster was the destruction of a Boeing 747 in flight over Lockerbie, Scotland, in December of 1988. A bomb on board caused critical damage to the forward end of the aircraft, and the front section (including the flight deck and first class compartment) tore away from the rest of the fuselage.
