The Pan Am Flight 103 disaster was the destruction of a Boeing 747 in flight over Lockerbie, Scotland, in December of 1988. A bomb on board caused critical damage to the forward end of the aircraft, and the front section (including the flight deck and first class compartment) tore away from the rest of the fuselage. The 247 passengers, 12 crew members and 11 townspeople of Lockerbie were killed in the disaster. A link can be found below.

Pan Am 103
Pan Am 103 was named Clipper Maid of the Seas.
Ambulances, (as well as fire crews and other first responders) were called in during the Lockerbie disaster to treat injured townspeople. There was no hope for the passengers and crew of Pan Am Flight 103, which came apart at about 31,000 feet, and particularly as the last 19,000 feet of the descent were vertical. Eleven Lockerbie residents were killed when pieces of the Boeing 747 fell on and around Lockerbie, Scotland.
Sigh...... Sadly, Their government. The believed him to be the nice guy
The Tenerife airport disaster is generally considered the worst aviation disaster ever. In 1977, a KLM Boeing 747 began to take off without takeoff clearance. This aircraft collided with a Pan Am Boeing 747 which was back-taxiing on the same runway. 538 people died in this crash; everyone on the KLM flight died and only 61 people on the Pan Am flight survived.
