when the first WW began in August 1914, Germany invaded Belgium in order to grt to France. The British Empire (which included Canada) had promised to support Belgiums neutrality, and declared war on Germany. Canada at the time only had a population of 7.88 million and was not yet a trully independant country. Britans declaration of war on 4 August 1914 meant that Canada and the reat of Britans colonies were attomatically at war.
In WW1, Britain had a loose obligation to France and she almost didn't declare war. But eventually she did anyway.
In WW2, Britain had issued a guarantee to Poland, and when Hitler attacked, Britain declared war shortly thereafter. Britains decision to go to war was likely already decided after Hitlers invasion of Czechoslovakia.
In world war one the UK joined in to defend Belgium because they were allies. Belguim was invaded only because Germany wanted to attack France.
Canada declared war the same day Britain did, in August 1914 and September 1939. At the time the bond of the Commonwealth countries was very strong and the majority of the population in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand were of UK descent or had themselves immigrated from a UK country. The general feeling was that we had a duty to help Britain defeat their enemies.
Because Canada was a Dominion within the British Empire, the head of state of Canada is still HM the Queen. All of the nations of the Empire sent forces to aid Britain in the war.
Out of loyalty to the UK.
Officially, in 1961.
Newfoundland.
Yes. As a member of the British Commonwealth of Nations, Australia was bound to join the war when Britain did and on Britain's side.
September 10, 1939- one week after France and the United Kingdom. As a colony,I think we were technically at war when the UK declared it. The CBC has PM McKenzie's speech online on its archives.AnswerCanada had been a independent nation, able to make it's own decisions, since 1867. The 7 day difference between September 3rd, when Britain declared war on Germany, and September 10th, was to allow Canada's parliament to fully debate the motion to declare war. It re-enforced the fact that we didn't have to follow in lock step with everything that Britain did.
Canada became totally autonomous from Britain in 1986
They didn't have a choice, they were transferred to Canada in a deal with Britain.
They no longer wanted to defend Canada and wanted Canada to leave, maybe even join the USA.
Britain did not "join" the Roman empire. Britain was conquered and then annexed into the empire as a province.
They were acquired in a deal from Britain. They were given no choice in the matter so in that sense did not "join". Seeing how Canada and Britain represented their interest in the Alaska Border dispute it is likely they would not have joined given a choice but of course we will never know.
Canada and Britain both have a Parlimentary Government.
Yes, Canada trades with Great Britain.
Canada and Britain are the leading members of the Commonwealth.
Yes, Canada and Britain have an excellent relationship.
Canada and Britain are the leading members of the Commonwealth.
Yukon did not "join" Canada. Britain transferred Rupert's Land and the North-western Territory to Canada on July 15, 1870. What is now Yukon was included in this transfer. With the discovery of gold, which resulted in the Klondike Gold Rush, on June 13, 1898, Canada created Yukon out of the territory so transferred in order that local law and order could be established and maintained.
France lost Canada to Britain
Canada was the victory over the battle against Britain
