First, not all terrorists are Muslim. There are also Zionist terrorists, Hindu terrorists, Protestant and Catholic terrorists, and so on. There are also nationalist terrorists and political terrorists; terrorism is a tactic, and is not tied to one religion.

Whether or not "most" terrorists are Muslim is hard to answer. It depends on what geographic areas and time periods you include, and what you consider to be "terrorism" rather than acts of war or acts of murder. See the related question.

As for the why, most terrorists are deeply concerned with regional disputes. For example, the UDF is a Northern Irish Protestant terrorist organization that is not well known elsewhere in the world because it only attacks targets in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Islamic terror is unique in that it seeks to destroy, or at least diminish, the entirety of Christianity and Western civilization, and so has a far wider range of targets. It also draws from the entirety of the Islamic world for recruits, and in some areas even has official support. As a result, Islamic terror has a higher profile than other terrorist groups, whether or not there are more Muslim terrorists than terrorists of any other religion.

I wished that the question is saying 'terrorist attacks' and not 'all terrorist attacks' because there are many terror attacks done by non Muslims as terror attacks done by Muslims.

No one can deny that some Muslims, or say claimed Muslims, have really been responsible for some terrorist attacks. However, this is just as some Christians, Jews, or other religion followers have. It should be understood that although some Muslims have indeed committed some terrorist attacks, but that they do not have the support of the majority Muslims. Despite that, we can't deny that some other non Muslims commit terrorist attacks and with the support of their governments and with media support and sympathy.

You may agree with me that terrorism is never religious acts although some people use religion as a cover for their unfair and evil intentions. You agree with me that biased media is an important factor in feeding the wrong beliefs that terrorism is attached to Muslims and Islam rather than other religions. This biased media is supported by the politicians who have their own agendas against some Islamic countries to get control of their lands and of their resources.

The followings are some evidences on the sayings above:

  • The claimed Islamic terrorism didn't occur before presidency of Bush (the father and the son)!!!.
  • When terrorist attack occurs by non Muslims (Christians, Jews, Buddhists, ...), the terrorists are called, by media and politicians, usually by their nationality (not religion) but when this happens by Muslims it is called by their religion and not nationality.
  • The rise of national resistance in some countries against occupation is logic and legitimate, as happened sometime ago in France against occupation. However, when these national resistance movements rise in an Islamic occupied lands it is considered rise of militant Islam or terrorist movements and are not called resistance and struggle for freedom.
  • When you compare the status of Spain when controlled by Muslims by that when controlled by other faiths. You never in Spain history any single civilian (woman, child, old man,....) killed or tortured by Muslims when they got control of Spain for over 800 years. Compare this with what is happening in Iraq and in Afghanistan?
  • The nuclear bomb attacks on Japan that of course done by non Muslims.
  • The Nazis and fascist attacks and massacres that of course caused by non Muslims.
  • The hundreds, if not thousands, of Muslims that killed in Nigeria, the Philippines, Pakistan, Chechen, ... that of course are killed by non Muslims.

There are many many other examples that confirm the international organized political and media campaign against Islam and Muslims, motivated by the greed of some politicians in the resources of Islamic countries and/or support the Westernized governments imposed over those countries.

However, we should admit that no religion in the world support terrorism. All world religions call for love and peace among people of the earth. Islam is not exception of those religions. On the other hand, all religions may have people who try to implement their own political agendas and practice terrorism acts under the umbrella of religion and the religion is innocent of their doings.

==========

Several of the above claims are worthy of discussion, but --- OOPS --- plenty occurred before Bush became President in 1989. For example:

- 19 August 1978, Iran: 4 Islamist militants bar the doors of a cinema and set it on fire. The exact number of deaths is unknown with estimates ranging from around 400 to over 800.

- 20 November - 4 December 1979, Saudi Arabia: Hundreds of militants from Wahabi group Ikhwan seized the Masjid al-Haram, Islam's holiest site, and demanded the overthrow of the House of Saud and institution of an Islamic state. The two week siege resulted in the deaths of about 250 people and injury of hundreds more.

- 27 July 1980, Belgium: A member of the Abu Nidal Organization throws two hand grenades into a group of Jewish schoolchildren waiting for a bus stop in Antwerp, Belgium, killing one and wounding twenty.

- 3 October 1980, France: motorcycle bomb kills four people and injures over forty at the rue Copernic synagogue in Paris

- 28 March 1981, Indonesia: 5 members of the islamic extremist group Komando Jihad hijack Garuda Indonesia Flight 206, killing the pilot

- 6 October 1981, Egypt: Assassination of Anwar Sadat by the Egyptian Islamic Jihad

- 29 November 1981, Syria: Car bomb from Syrian Muslim Brotherhood destroys four apartment buildings in the Azbakya district of Damascus

- 9 August 1982, France: Two members of the Abu Nidal Organization open fire on a Jewish restaurant in Paris

- 11 August 1982, Pacific Ocean: Pan Am Flight 830 bombed by Mohammed Rashed, a Jordanian linked to the 15 May Organization

- 9 October 1982, Italy: Attack with grenades and machine guns on the central synagogue in Rome,

- 18 April 1983, Lebanon: U.S. Embassy bombing, in Beirut, Lebanon by the Islamic Jihad Organization

- 23 October 1983, Lebanon: Beirut barracks bombing by the Islamic Jihad Organization.

- 12 December 1983, Kuwait: Coordinated bombings of six foreign and Kuwaiti installations including two embassies, the airport, and the country's main petro-chemical plant.

- 20 September 1984, Lebanon: United States embassy annex bombing in Beirut, Lebanon.

- 21 January 1985, Indonesia: Buddhist Borobudur temple in Java was damaged by 9 bombs.

- 12 April 1985, Spain: El Descanso bombing

- 14 June1985, Greece: TWA Flight 847 hijacking.

... all of these identified themselves as attacking in the name of Islam.

In all these instances politics and religion have been intertwined by the terrorists.

Answer 1

Who saying that the all muslims are terrorist.all of them feel fear to the muslims and islams .they think that if muslims take over world .all of them are destroy in few seconds.thats why they say all muslims are terrorist.

Answer 2

I don't believe people accept that all Muslims are terrorists. Tying all people in any group into a common set of beliefs is very rarely true. What I do believe is that radical extremists within Islam outnumber the Muslims that follow their faith exactly. Also, when leaders like Achmadinejad promise to drive Israel into the sea, that is a unequivocal terroristic statement.

Answer 3

Not all terrorists are Muslims even though a very large number of them are. Muslims are followers of their prophet Muhammad.

Surprising as it may seem, most Muslims care little for the politics of violence and just wish to go to work, make an honest wage, and raise a family. Some however, choose to follow religious records of Muhammad which depicted him as a criminal, thereby turning themselves into terrorists.

These religious records written by the earliest muslim leaders who were themselves ardent followers of muhammad, are called hadeeths/hadiths.

However, not all muslims agree to these writings. Some muslims choose to only rely on the main religious text, called the Qur'an which unfortunately reveals very little about the dealings of muhammad and is itself non-contextual. As a result, there is little option left but to refer to some of these hadeeths for backdrops to some of the Qur'anic teachings.

Which inevitably results in many areas of grey interpretations. When one refers heavily on the hadeeths, one may un-knowingly pick up some of the recorded practices which are criminal by today's standards. A simple reference to any on-line library of hadeeths will reveal this.

Some however, choose only to rely on the Qur'an and avoid the hadeeths altogether. These are called Qur'anists.

But whether or not a muslim becomes evil depends largely on the interpretation given to him/her by their religious teachers because the Q'uran is not only non-contextual it is also only to be interpreted by an Arabic speaking teacher. Who, if he relies on these recorded biographies of Muhammad in the hadeeths will lead those who follow him straight into religious terrorism.

Answer 1

there not but they choose to follow that way and not all muslims are terrorists

Answer 2

The underlying premise of the question, that all terrorists are Muslims, is false. While a large percentage of terrorism around the world is perpetrated by individuals who consider themselves as Muslims, not all terrorists are Muslims. There are Christian terrorists, such as the Irish Republican Army and Radicalized Christians who cause bombings or target abortion clinics. There are Jewish terrorists, such as those who were members of the Irgun and the Lehi. There are Hindu terrorists, such as the Tamil Tigers. There are Buddhist terrorists, such as several violent orders of Japanese monks like the Ikko-Ikki.

The reason that more terrorists come out of Islam, though, is that the Qur'an, the chief Holy Book of Islam, has numerous verses of conflict that are seized upon by individuals across the Islamic World. These individuals feel that they, both as individuals and as a community, have been mistreated by the rest of the world, especially the Western Powers. As a result, they follow the violent passages to their inevitable conclusion. Most Muslims, however, do not feel the need to read those verses and instead choose have the more peaceful passages motivate their worldview.

The underlying premise of the question is false; Muslims are not blamed for all terrorist attacks because terrorism is not exclusively something done by Muslims. Since there are terrorist incidents performed by Non-Muslims, the exclusivity is incorrect.

However, the reason that Muslims are blamed for MOST BUT NOT ALL terrorist attacks is because Muslims are disproportionately responsible for terrorism. In the last ten years, over 85% of terrorist incidents and 85% terrorist-related fatalities were perpetrated by Muslims. Considering that Muslims are roughly 23% of the world population, this is quite an amazing statistic and merits some explanation.

There are numerous factors involved:

Islamism and Jihadism
Islamism is not a religion; Islam is the religion. Islam is a religion and Jihad is a religious concept within Islam. Islamism and Jihadism, however, are political ideologies whose goal is to bring the religious tenets of Islam into the daily functioning of a government and its laws. Jihadism is a form of Islamism that not only wishes a particularly repressive version of Islamic Law to be instituted, but believes that violence in defense of the faith is the preferred way to do this. Jihadism, like Islamism, is a political ideology rooted in Islamic religious concepts. There are certainly Qur'anic verses that can be read by those seeking to be intolerant and violent of good grounds to do so. Q: 3:19 claims that the only religion that is acceptable to God is Islam. Q: 3:110 claims that Muslims are the best people in all history. Q: 8:55 claims that those who disbelieve are the worst of animals. Q: 9:29 argues for the repression and inequality of Jews and Christians before Muslims. Q: 2:216 argues for fighting against "enemies" even if you would prefer not to. There are numerous other verses that support this connection. While it is only a minority (between 10-20%) of Muslims who are Islamists and a far smaller number (<3%) who are Jihadists, almost all Islamists and Jihadists are Muslims and these small percentages still translate into millions of people. It is important to note that the validity of Islamism and Jihadism exist as only one reading out of many possible readings of the Qur'an, which is why there are many legitimate readings that condone secularism.

Western Foreign Policy
Muslims have a strong sense of humiliation over Western colonization, the subsequent repressive and authoritarian secular regimes that were supported by Western countries, and the numerous wars fought by Westerners in Islamic countries. That form of rage is easy to exploit in convincing young men and women to perform violent acts.

Economic Disenfranchisement
In many cases, the lower rungs of terrorist groups are made of people who literally have no money. They see their joblessness and unemployment as hopeless scenarios and see the possibility of religious, political, and social goals being achieved through violence as being a unique form of personal relevance.

General Unrest
The Middle East and many other parts of the Islamic World are inherently unstable societies because they are ruled by authoritarians and/or the countries are divided into numerous factions.

Do muslims believe in killing?

There is the pervasive stereotype that Muslims are terrorists because the vast majority of terrorism worldwide is currently perpetrated by Muslims. Of course, these actions represent little more than a rounding error in the overall Muslim population, but their consistency combined with the fact that most Westerners do not have consistent interactions with Muslims has bred this stereotype.
