Why are you not allowed to post links in an answer?

Sites which allow anyone to post links tend to rapidly become filled with spam. The operators of Answers.com have chosen not to allow this. Still, if you feel that mentioning a site is unavoidable you can do it without adding URL. For instance, if you want to add information about Google you can mention it this way: "Rcent Panda Update by Google has dumped many links because of poor content quality. If you want to learn more about it, you can access Google's official blog on blogging and SEO.". I hope this answers your question.

Because there are certain questions that will violate Answer.com's Terms of Use. Questions that are not allowed to be posted on WikiAnswers and Answers.com include questions that:

• Make no sense or contain gibberish
• Do not have enough information in them to answer
• Contains vulgarity and profanity
• Contain explicit sexual content and other inappropriate subject matter
• Contain offensive content including racism, bullying, insults, etc. that has the intention of harming and offending a particular person
• Contain porn sites
• Ask how to kill oneself
• Ask how to do certain illegal acts (terrorism, homicide, infanticide, smuggling illegal content across international borders, theft/robbery/burglary, hacking websites or someone's computer, spreading Computer Viruses, sexual abuse/assault, physical abuse/ assault, verbal abuse/assault, vandalism, hate crimes, genocide, gang violence, intentional cruelty towards animals, plagiarism, violating copyright laws, and many other unlawful acts.)
• Contains content that violates software licenses
• Contains content and/or asks how to bypass blocked websites
• Contains and/or asks for or about personal information about certain contributors, people and celebrities
• Contains content intended to spam the site
• Contains other content that adds no value or offends other contributors on the site.

All of the questions that contain ANY of the content mentioned above will be trashed without further ado.

You will also get a warning for posting inappropriate questions on the site. However, depending on the seriousness of your acts of violating Answers.com's TOU, you may not get a warning but a permanent block without a warning.

Users that use the site to post content that is considered a violation of the TOU and continues to ask such questions after being warned will be blocked.

You can, you just can't post your own, post any of the same repeatedly or post any from known spam sources. You have to use the links feature though and keep them out of the answer body.
