I've got a `93 Impreza, and I occasionally have the same problem. In my case, and likely in yours, the car doesn't sense that the brake is depressed. There's likely a small adjustment that can be made, but I don't have the problem too often. There's a piece of plastic surrounding the gear shift that you can remove (one screw I think). Inside, there's a manual release for the shifter - a small hole with a tab at the bottom. I keep an old screwdriver in the car specifically for this purpose. Hope this helps...

To change the park light on a Subaru Impreza prop the trunk lid open and locate the taillight housing. Remove the plastic cover and the bulbs for the parking lights. Replace the bulbs.

Why would the shifter in an automatic 93 Subaru Impreza not release to go into gear?

I have had the same problem with my '93 Impreza. The button on the automatic shifter will not depress to take it out of park. There is an override option in the owner's manual but I think the real problem is the brake light sensor. Ocassionaly, when I can actually get it out of park, you can hear a clicking noise when the brake petal is pressed, this is the shifter-lock releasing. It must be the sensor for the brake petal going bad.

Why is your 1993 subaru loyale stuck in park?

Be sure to apply the brake before trying to shift out of park. If you apply the brake and the car still won't shift out of park, do not try to force it. The problem could be a failure of the mechanism that releases the shifter.

Transmission will not come out of park?

I'm not completely familiar with the VW transmission, but I had a Subaru Impreza that had this problem one time. The problem was that the safety lock (that keeps you from taking it out of park without applying the brake) was tied into the horn relay on my Impreza. It's probably a similar issue with your VW, although it may be a different relay that has gone bad. In other words, check your relays & fuses, because it's more than likely an electrical issue. Also, in the Subaru, there was a small hole at the front of the shifter (in front of Park, beneath the plastic console) that you could insert a screwdriver into to bypass the relay in order to drive the car until the relay could be repaired. Again, not sure about VW's design, but I hope this information is useful!

How do you get a 1995 subaru impreza out of park the button wont push in?

there is an interlock that prevents you from taking it out of park unless the brake pedal is pushed. if it is still locked with the brake applied, check to insure the brake lights are working (in case it is an electrical problem), or check the owners manual. most cars have an override for this system such as a hole in the console you can stick your key into to bypass the lock.

What is a ball park fogure for how much it cost to chang timing belt on 2002 Subaru impreza wrx?

It all depends on where you go, I would suggest going to the dealer. It may cost a few more dollars, but the timing is hard to get right on subarus. If I had to guess I would say around $700
