Benjamin Moore sells "Impervo" which is an oil/alkyd paint. Im sure Sherwin Williams also has a line.

ADDED:

You can, you just have to look harder.

Also - availability depends on where you are. For instance, some places in Southern California are within the SCAQMD (Southern California Air Quality Management District) where they have very strict VOC laws. In these areas, paint companies can no longer sell certain types of paint and (as of 1/1/10) most solvents (that old linseed based oil is still available at Sherwin-Williams in quarts only). It is illegal to ship, sell, and even use the paints outlawed in these areas, and to get caught will get you heavily fined. The new "low VOC" and "green" paints are certainly improving (and smell better too!) over what they were when they first came out, but for durability the old stuff is still much better. They claim its only a matter of time before the whole country passes stricter VOC laws. Get used to it.

How do you paint with alkyd?

In the past oil paints referred to either petroleum based paints or linseed based paints. Today in the USA petroleum based paints are no longer sold and it is difficult to find linseed based paints though they do exist with a small proportion of linseed oil. Alkyd paints are made with synthetic oil and are readily available and have come to be known as "oil" paint.

Are oil based paints illegal?

No, they're not.

Is oil in salad dressing a suspension colloid or solution?

Oil-based paints tend to separate into layers over time. The pigment molecules are suspended in a solvent of linseed oil and mineral spirits. Oil-based paints are suspensions. Water-based paints such as latex paint are colloids.

Does it cost more to paint using oil based paint vs latex paint?

It costs a lot more to use oil paints rather than latex paints. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, the ingredients that make up oil paint are much more expensive than ingredients for latex paint. Second, due to companies having more earth friendly restrictions, oil based paints have gone up in price and are harder to find now (oil based paints are less earth friendly than latex paints)

Will water work for thinning oil paints?

Unfortunately combining oil and water in paint always results in disaster. Oil based paints must be thinned with solvent. Brushes used to paint oil based paints also need to be cleaned with solvent.

Are oil-based paints for house exteriors against the law?

It depends on where you live. States in the Mid-Atlantic region, including Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, DC, New York, and a small portion of Virgina, along with California, Ohio and Illinois don't allow the sale of oil based paints. Other than that, most states allow the use of oil based house paints. Check your local regulations to be sure that oil based paints are in your area. Paint companies are working on improving water based alternatives to take the place of oil based paints. In fact, Acrylic latex paints have outperformed their oil based counterparts in exterior applications for years.

Do oil based paints have better adhesion?

Generally they do.

What is the difference between water based and oil based interior white paint?

Regardless of the color, oil-based paints use solvent, normally mineral spirits, as a solvent Vs. water for water-based and oil-based paints dry harder than latex paints making them more scrubable. Water-based paints don't yellow or crack as they age and can be formulated to dry fairly hard while still retaining some elasticity. Both oil and water-based white paints should cover to opacity in a single coat.

Where do you get oil paints?

Oil paints can be found at general retailers such as Michael's or JoAnn Fabrics. You can also find them at your local art store and many places online. There are also oil-based paints that you can buy at Home Depot or Lowe's for more home uses, rather than art projects.
