Why did America go to war in Afghanistan after helping put the Taliban into power during the Russia-Afghanistan war?

The Americans exploited the concept of Jihad in Islam to fight the soviets and push them out of Afghanistan, However, when the Mujahedeen ( The Islamic holy fighters) won the war and started to rule, their policy did suit the Americans. For example, Taliban ( the term used now for the Mujahdeen) are sympathatic with Arabs due to Islamic ties with them. This support included anti-Israeli position and call for the Palestinan cause. Such policy made the Americans move against Taliban and declared war against them specially after what happened in 9-11 and the support Osama Bin Laden by the Taliban.

Yes and no. They are heping a lot over there but unfortunately as soon as they leave a town/village that they were helping the Taliban messes everything up again. So many noble men and women have lost their lives, and sometimes it seem like they're doing it for no reason.

Why is the US military in Afghanistan?
The US is currently in Afghanistan following the attacks on September 11, 2001. The attacks were led by a lone terrorist organization called Al Qaeda, who set up their "headquarters" in the mountains of Eastern Afghanistan. The Taliban, a local extremest group was hired by Al Queda to protect Osama Bin Laden the leader of the terrorist organization. The US ordered the Taliban to give up Bin Laden or be destroyed by a US invasion. After a few days it was clear that Bin Laden would not surrender. The US invaded Afghanistan in October of 2001 after intelligence was gathered by a CIA team codenamed "Jawbreaker" and defeated both the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Bin Laden escaped into the Tora Bora mountains and later into Pakistan were he began to rebuild Al Qaeda. The Taliban went into hiding as US forces easily took control of Kabul and other major cities. Currently the US is still in the country fighting an insurgency set up by Taliban warlords. Fewer than 100 Al Qaeda fighters remain in Afghanistan, But US drone attacks around Islamabad Pakistan weaken Al Queda everyday. The US is winning the War on Terror, and now almost all of the United States resources heading for Afghanistan, because of Operation Iraqi Freedom coming to a close, which was a victory.

America has always had political allies; even at the time of the Revolutionary War, the rebellious colonies were aided by France. America is currently part of a formal alliance called NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and America's NATO allies are helping America in its current war in Afghanistan. I really do not know what could have given you the idea that America should not have political allies. Allies are helpful.
