Why did Hitler make a mistake in invading the Soviet Union?

in invading the ussr in 1941, it opened up a second front war considering that after invading France in 1940, great Britain, Canada, new zealand, Australia and later the US, were at war against Germany, thereby resulting to more stress to German resources. weakening the German armed forces by making them deploy and fight in so many areas and effectively strenghtening the allied forces by attacking ussr, by the time D-Day took place, 85% of German armed forces were deployed in ussr of whom there were 27 million soviet military casualties and only 15% fought the allied invasion of whom the allies suffered 2.5 million military casualties. Had Germany not invaded the ussr, and concentrated fighting the US and Britain, there wouldn't be any Normandy landings.
