The government kept changing in Canada east and west, it was hard to make big decisions. they decided to create a new country called Canada, to solve these issues. When the Americans had a war over slavery, the british helped those who were for slavery, but when the people against slavery won, the province of Canada was afraid they would get attacked because they were a british colony, but if they were a separate country, the Americans would be nice to their new neighbor.
New Brunswick joined the confederation because they had lots and LOTS of debts that needed to be paid off. They also wanted access to the railroad, which would connect them with the rest of Canada.
The 1st provinces joined Confederation as a defence against our (then) greatest expansionist foe, the United States. Talk of Manifest Destiny, the US authorities having permitted the mounting of the Fenian Raids to go unchecked, were some of the reasons. These fears of invasion came to fruitition during the Klondike Gold Rush 1897 - 1899 in the Yukon, when the US attempted to send the US Army through Alaska into the Yukon under the guise of protecting US citizens from the harsh rules imposed by the RNWMP, The US had previously mounted similar attacks, using the same excuse, in Florida and Texas.
The Mounties wouldn't permit gunslinging, bars were closed on Sundays, all boats and barges were licenced, and anyone entering the Klondike had to be self sufficient to last the season. Ultimately, A few members of the the Royal North West Mounted Police, equipped with a Maxim gun, under Samuel Benfield Steele stopped the Americans at the border, and they accepted his advise not to attempt to proceed any further.
Canada West and Canada East offered a railway to link Nova Scotia to the mainland. They promised money for bridges, roads, and other development.
The last province to join Confederation was Newfoundland, in 1949. The last territory to join Canada was Nunavut, in 1999.
The first province to join Confederation after 1867 was Manitoba, which joined in 1870.

Ontario joined Confederation because of political deadlock.
it's in the confederation. ------ No yet they still did. Now the Question is should they stay?
1. Ontario did not exist prior to Confederation. Therefore it could not have "joined" Confederation. 2. Confederation occurred almost 150 years ago. It is a little late to be discussing such a question.
because they wanted to be a part of the governments desisions
No, they did not want to join Confederation. However, John Hamilton Gray, of PEI, was in favour.
Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and british Columbia were the first provinces to join confederation.
Wrong. First, Ontario did not exist as such until Confederation. Second, that part of the Province of Canada which had formerly been Upper Canada (and which formed the basis of today's Ontario) had the most to gain from Confederation and was the strongest supporter of Confederation. Third, although all provinces have benefited from Confederation, it is probably fair to say that Ontario has benefited the most from Confederation.
It did
Alberta wanted to join the Confederation to further their economic ability, gain money, and access to the Trans-Canada railway.
