-Expand territory/land
-Money from resources/labor
-Social Darwinism (belief that Europeans are the superior race; this was only present in the New Age of Imperialism, not the Old Age, which focused on the Americas)
-Adventure/exploration
-Spread religion
mostly for power and trade, and also to keep the empire strong.
