They believed that when a person died their soul would travel to the underworld and be judged by the gods. If the gods were pleased with the person they would allow them to enter the afterlife. Love, Hate, Sadness, Jealousy, etc.) and needed an explination for it all. So what happend was they came up with gods & goddesses to explain all these 'happenings' to make themselves feel better. But then, The Romans came and heard about them. They learned the stories and took them out of Greece into Italy. When they retold the stories, they changed the names of all of the gods and goddesses to make them seem like they made them up.
