The ANZAC troops were patriotic men who wanted to support their country, whether it be Australia or New Zealand. However, they also trusted the British commanders, who unfortunately made some serious errors in judgement, landing the troops in an untenable location.

They joined the war because New Zealand is under the British umpire and we are a commonwealth country. Same reason for Australia, they are under the British umpire and are part of the commonwealth. The Queen would ask us first to help out Britain if they needed our help in a massive war.

There was no such thing as the ANZAC war. ANZAC is an acronym for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps, and the ANZAC troops fought in many places during World War I. There was no one war or battle that revolved around the ANZACs.
