because they had no say in laws they were forced to obey
The phrase "The Coercive Acts" was actually the popular reference for the Restraining Acts, a group of four acts or proclamations originating from King George and targeting the American Colonies in direct response to the Boston Tea Party. These acts were The Boston Port Act, the Quartering Act, the Administration of Justice Act, and the Massachusetts Government Act. The intent of these acts were to punish Boston and bring the rest of the colonies in line. Instead, it almost single handedly began the American Revolution.
The American Colonists renamed the Coercive Acts to the Intolerable Acts because they found them so unbearable.

Coercive acts
The colonists called the Coercive Acts the "Intolerable Acts" because they viewed the laws as oppressive and unfair. The acts were seen as a violation of their rights and liberties, including the closing of the port of Boston and the imposition of martial law. The colonists believed that these acts were intolerable and not to be accepted.
