One of the reasons was the climate of India. The British wanted to spend some time in this region because they were sick of the cold climate in Europe and the warm climate of India attracted them.

Second reason was the trade opportunities in India. At that time, South Asia was considered the 'Golden Sparrow' due to the various trade oppportunities, spices, silk, gold, diamond and real craft in this region so they wanted to earn profit from this region because they had failed in South Africa and Indonesia. They wanted a new world market due to Industrial revolution in England. Their developed industries and machine products. They wanted to extract raw material from this area for their industries. This could make their future bright by capturing this world market. They wanted to establish a base in this region because of its important geographical location and they could easily keep an eye on the surrounding countries like China and Russia, because they wanted to make a colony of their own for having more slaves. They could also get control over warm sea ports.
