∙ 14y agoThey did not simply wait. They pounded the Alamo with artillery, but their guns were not powerful enough to open a breach in the walls. A heavy siege cannon was being brought from Mexico, but Santa Anna grew tired of waiting for it, so on the 13th day he ordered the costly but successful infantry attack on the North Wall.

Today, the Alamo is very much intact.

Was Sam Houston in the battle of the Alamo?

He could not penetrate the Mexican force with only a few hundred men, which numbered nearly 5500 men, so he was forced to wait. The surprise attack routed the Mexicans, and most were killed or wounded. Around 200 were captured, including Santa Anna the next day. In exchange for his life, Santa Anna deeded away Mexican rights to Texas. After nine years as a free republic, Texas joined the United States.
