i don't know for sure, but they weren't really allies in ww2, you see, the Soviet Union became friends with Germany so that they could split Poland, but, what both parties did not know was that they were both using each other, and socialism and the American way, are very different, and always, to superpowers always become rivals
The US and the Soviet Union actually became adversaries after World War One. President Wilson had wanted to wait to see how the Soviets would act once they were in power. Wilson was at a dinner party when word was brought to him that the Soviets had murdered the Czar, his wife, and their five children, whom they had been holding prisoner for more than a year. Wilson said that the mask was off, and recognized the Soviets for the brutal thugs they were. The US sent troops to Archangel and Murmansk, in northern Russia, and to Vladivostok, on Russia's Pacific Coast, as soon as WWI was over. These troops were sometimes called "The Polar Bear Brigades". Ostensibly these troops were to guard the massive depots of supplies the US had sent to the Czar's armies, trying to keep Russia in the war, until the US could carry the supplies away, so they would not fall into Soviet hands and be used in the Civil War raging in Russia between the Reds and the Whites. Inevitably the US troops in Russia got into some fighting, but not as much as the troops of other western nations, also in those places in Russia. The troops of Britain and Japan were more frank about hoping to remove the Soviets from power. The Soviets never forgot nor forgave this interference in Russia and the effort to stop their Revolution.
The US and Britain were only cordial with the Soviets during WWII because they had a common enemy in Hitler. Actually, before Hitler attacked Russia, Hitler and Stalin were partners from 1939 to 1941, each busily gobbling up his neighbors.
Issues between the US and the Soviets after WWII mostly involved the Russian refusal to take its armed forces back to Russia, and free the nations of Eastern Europe. Those dozen or so countries were forced to dance to Moscow's tune for the next 45 years.
even though US and Soviet union were fighthing with the allies, they were still the biggest competitiors in the race to be at the top of the world. After the common enemy (Germany) was removed, these two countiers were at it again. They started an arms race to reach to the top.
They each wanted to promote their competing political ideologies.
