Most domestic cats do not enjoy being dunked in the water for a few reasons. One, cats are originally desert animals, so the water may feel unnatural to them. Second, some cats may only not like water when forced into it, they could be perfectly fine when voluntarily going in water. However, not all house cats dislike water. in fact, some breeds like the Turkish Van quite enjoy taking a swim in a bathtub or pool.

That is because of the quality of their fur. The domestic cat has lost much of its natural water-resistant overlayer fur, because humans prefer the softer underfur. Basically the water is a LOT harder to get out of the underfur and takes most of a day to dry. So getting wet is a lot more hussle for a domestic cat when an outdoor-living wild big cats can just shake most of the water off, just like dogs.
