There is just enough voltage in the battery to light up the dash but not enough to turn the engine over. The little lamps consume way less energy as opposed to cranking the engine.
If a 1987 Chevy Suburban has lights and horn, but no ignition, gauges, radio, or interior lights it could be a ground wire problem. It is possible that there is a short somewhere. Also check the dome light for a possible water leak in the headliner.
you could make a generator that when turned either a. lights up the light at the end of the sonic screwdriver or b. lights up the TARDIS light.
Replace fuse 33
Ignition switch going bad, corroded or loose battery cables, starter relay or starter going bad.
BETTER HAVE THE ECM CHECKED.ITS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE CARS.ITS LOCATED NEXT TO THE BATTERY ON THE LEFT FRONT FENDER.MINE DID THE SAME THING.THE IGNITION MUDULE IS BUILT INTO THE ECM.
Check all the fuses.. My power locks, radio, dome lights werent working. I looked at the "Radio-CLock" fuse it was good. I checked the others and and "Aux" fuse or seomthing was bad.
It happened to me, im not saying it is the same thing but look into it, mine was a actuator and pin in the steering column that was broken and wouldn't pull back when you turned the ignition off.AnswerSounds like you have a bad ignition switch. It stays in the run position instead of going to the off position and stopping the flowing of current to the ignition.
Adaptions to the environment
check fuses
Dash lights and tail lights are on the same fuse.
You have a serious electrical problem. I would start by checking and cleaning body chassis and engine grounds If that's not it look for a damaged wiring harness in the steering colom
its still the switch,it isn't adjusted correctly
