many companies hide the facts about their product compliance with the standards. Normally, that practice it is picked up by customers being aware of the misleading attitude of retailers/manufacturers. That is called poor marketing and ill customer service.

Much advertising targets your emotional brain, as opposed to your logical brain, as emotions drive decisions, later reinforced by "logical" justifications. Additionally, branding messages (most often seen on TV) are different than transactional advertising in that the goal is to change or reinforce your perception of, and emotional attachment to, the advertiser accomplished through trust and consistency (not the features and specs of a specific product).

Mass advertising that provides detailed information about the product has a challenge in that the features one person values will not align with the values of the next person. So, to illustrate all of the benefits/features/applications of a product, you create something like a 12-page document that no-one will read until after they are already interested, or an infomercial.

How does advertising differ from publicity?

Advertising is initiated by the company while publicity includes any form of public attention that a company receives. A company might pay to feature an advertisement in a local newspaper. This would contain information about the company and its product. Publicity, however, might entail that newspaper running a story about the company, its initiatives, or its relevance to the reader base. Publicity would be information coming from another source, which in turn would increase a company's credibility. Advertising still gets the word out to the people, but publicity does it in a better way.

What is advertising illustration?

Advertising illustration is the practice of using drawings and graphics to sell commercial products. Often, an illustrator will generate "comps" (short for comprehesives, for although rough, contain all of the information that will be contained in the final piece... they're comprehensive) in order for all desicion makers to agree and authorize the next step in developing an ad campaign, without worrying that each person "had something different in mind." The final piece (in print.. magazines, etc ...) is usually a photograph. In the older days, final illustrations were often drawings and paintings.
