Why do people sacrifice love?

One is not forced by anyone to make sacrifices for others, but out of common decency and harmonious living, if nothing else, it is considered by most moral codes to be a good thing to show compassion for others. If Christianity is about anything at all, it is about doing to others as you would have them do to you, (to paraphrase Jesus). Again I will paraphrase Jesus who said "No greater thing can a man do than to lay down his life for his friends." Most eastern religions, especially Buddhism, consider everything in this world, animate and inanimate, to be worthy of respect. Sacrificing or foregoing some of Life's little luxuries, also lends you some self respect. If one has something that another person doesn't have, is it not possible to make a small sacrifice and share? Furthermore, if one has two of something, is it not possible to lend, give, or ask for a token payment for either item? No doubt, you have heard the expression "what goes around comes around" which correlates with the eastern belief in "Karma". Next time you pass a homeless person in the street, thank God it is not you.

Whatever your religion or spiritual beliefs are, surely you have been told that it is better to give than to receive. I know that sounds trite but it's true. There are so many people in this world who are unspeakably wealthy and those at the other end of the scale who have nothing, so is it not possible to forego some small things?

Good question. Really there are so many scenarios that would provide a combination of answers but it comes down to what is important to the person making that sacrifice, or at least what they think is more important. It could be from a career to something as innate as fear. To really understand the answer to this question you have to look at your particular situation and understand the person for who they are and not who they portray themselves to be, since this is the facade for the world and therefore not an accurate interpretation of their self. To do that you must see the simple facts from a non-bias point of view or an objective view; same thing. Then you can piece together those facts like a jigsaw puzzle of sorts, keeping in mind that this is one you can never fully put together, and then use logic to acquire your best assumption. Love is never an easy answered question. We must be able to separate ourselves from our emotions to let our minds see what is really there.
