You run out hot water because you must have a small water heater. A water heater gets water, and heats it up, so if you have a small one, then once you use up all the hot water, you need to wait a while for the heater to heat up more.

What happens if you take a 5 minute shower?

If you can get clean in 5 minutes that's all that counts. You should be able to take a 20 minute one before you run out of hot water. That's the only real time limit on the length of a shower.

When using the kitchen sink why does the water in the shower upstairs go hot or cold?

The plaming tubes are all conected. When the cold water run in kitchen the cold water at the shower become less,so with less cold water at the mix cold-hot (the balance is desterb),making the water hoter.Same if you turn on the hot in the kitchen the water will be colder in the shower.

What could cause hot water in an upstairs bathtub to trickle but cold water run fine?

Bad shower valve.

How do you fix shower hot water when toilet is flushed?

Run a new cold supply line from the source. This will drain less pressure from the the cold shower line.

How many minutes will 40 gallons of hot water last in a shower?

That depends on both how quickly water flows out of the shower head (gallons per minute) and how hot the water is (ratio of cold water to hot water). Also depends on the recovery rate of the water heater. As you use up the hot water, the water heater is making new hot water, but not usually as fast as you are using it. A high recovery rate will extend the time you have hot water.

Why does the storage tank run out of hot water when showering and what can you do to sort out this problem?

Many variables need to be supplied here. Size of water heater, Gallons per minute of shower head and volume of water being used. If the water heater is small, you only have 30 gallons of hot water available. If you have a 6 GPM shower head, that is only enough for about a 5 minute shower. If you have had the water heater checked out to make sure the heating element (if electric) isn't corroded or caked with calcium or making a lot of noise (boiling sounds) if it is gas, you can increase the temperature setting on the water heater. This will let you use more cold water and increase your shower duration. Changing your shower head to a low flow type will also increase you soak time. Another thing to consider is the distance of the shower from the water heater. If the pipes have to travel some distance in an uninsulated space, this will lower water temperature as it travels through the pipes. Hope this helped.

Why a bathroom mirror fogged while you take a shower?

Cold air holds less moisture than warm air. When you run the shower with hot water, the moisture condenses on the cold mirror surface causing it to fog up. If you run the shower cold, the mirror will not fog up.

How much water is used in an average 7 min shower?

Modern shower heads are mandated to allow 2.5 gallons per minute through them. If it is an older shower head that could be up to 8 or 9 gpm. An easy test is get a five gallon bucket and let the shower run into it for a timed minute. You can measure up the side and see if fills about 1/2 of the bucket or not.

Why does the ceiling starts to drip on the floor when someone takes a hot shower?

There are several possibilities; some of them indicate plumbing problems, and some of them are just consequences of physics. If the ceiling in the room with the shower drips all over during a hot shower, it may simply be that water vapor from the hot water is condensing on the relatively cool ceiling and dripping. If the ceiling in the room with the shower drips in a particular place, then it may be that the hot water pipe is leaking. (It's unusual for the hot water pipe to run through the ceiling instead of running up inside the wall, but it's not impossible.) It's also possible that it's condensation again, but that the condensation is only occurring at a particularly cool spot... perhaps where the ventilation system or a cold water pipe runs through the ceiling above. If the ceiling in the room underneath the shower drips after someone takes a shower, but only a hot shower, again it's probably the hot water pipe. If the celing in the room underneath the shower drips regardless of whether hot or cold water is used, then it's most likely a drip in the shower drain pan.

How many gallons of do you use when taking a shower?

Aim the shower into a bucket. Let it run for one minute. Measure how much water that has collected in the bucket. Now you have the flow per minute. Next, time yourself when you take a shower. Multiply the minutes spent showering with the flow rate to find the total amount of water used.

What would cause hot water to run out in 1 shower in just 5 minutes yet run for 30 in another shower?

It would have to be the controls or the shower head. Distance from the heater or size of supply lines shouldn't have much affect. The only variable would be the control or shower head and either one could have a flow restrictor in it or both.

How do hotel showers never run out of water and how is it instantly hot?

Hotels have very large water heaters/boilers that have quick recovery times to keep up with high demands. Most have a hot water recirculating line in which a pump keeps the hot water circulating very close to the shower valve and back to the source thus instant hot water.
