Why do you sometimes hear a donk noise when you brake on a 1997 Chevy Cavalier?

It's hard to figure out exactly what you mean by that, but it sounds like it's PROBABLY a loose or worn suspension part such as ball joint, strut or bushing. But I can't know for certain without listening to it and/or jacking up the front end.
