Something is wrong in the 94 Taurus reverse light circuit. There is probably a short causing the battery voltage to drop when the car is in reverse.

When you shift the Tesla Roadster into reverse you are just reversing the rotation of the electric motor. However it has a built in limiter that prevents you from going any faster than 15 mph in reverse. Without the limiter you could go just as fast in reverse as you could in drive until your had a wreck which you would in short order.
The Chrysler 2.4 liter engines make you remove the top plastic vanity plate and the 4 runner intake atop the engine. Each of these should be just a few bolts that are easy to access from the top.
