im guessing cuz he still secretly loves her and wants her back and thinks about her WAY too much. and he wated to brake it off earlier but used the affair as an excuse. he was scared. and frankly probably bored. maybe bored with the same cooking, or was tired of fights with his wife.
but im 13, so what do i know?
