If it givef just one short blast - that signifies that the system has been armed. If you wish to silence this feature read the Owner's Manual - it tells you how.
I believe a passive alarm will just activate a horn or very loud sound device after the initial trigger is activated, like opening a door, hood or trunk lid. And that is that. You need to get a pricier alarm to activate door locks, etc. Hope this helps.
Tighten the screw on the back or side of the horn. That increases the sound.

The first thing is to see if there is a spare N.O. set of contacts on the alarm relay. If there is a spare set of contacts connect your horn supply to one side of the N.O. contact terminals. Connect the horn to the other side of the N.O. contact terminals. Energize the horn circuit's supply. Now when the alarm circuit relay activates the horn will sound.
there is a setting on the alarm system that allows you to defeat or quiet the alarm /panic horn under the hood the alarm box is located under the drivers side seat. I get home at 3am from work and was waking up my neighbors when locking my car. The Subaru dealer will be able to activate the horn for you and it should be free because he took 10 seconds to silence mine.
If you deactivate the horn your car will not pass the state inspection next time. In order to get rid of the problem you have to reprogram the alarm system. For that you have to find out which alarm system you have. If you have an aftermarket alarm system then you can check the alarm system manufacture website for instructions. If the alarm system was installed by the manufacture you have to contact a local car dealer (the same manufacture of course).
An auto alarm is composed of one or more sensors connected to a siren or the car's horn. When those sensors detect certain types of motions, they activate the siren (or the horn) so it sounds a loud alarm, hopefully deterring the would be thief. The owner has the ability to override the alarm (and enter into his own car) by entering some sort of code, or pushing a button on a key fob.
You want the red light to blink, as the basic Toyota security alarm is contact based, meaning it will sound the horn when a door is forced open. The blinking red light shows that the system is armed and will activate when the doors are secure and locked.

The alarm brain is located in the rear of the SUV, in the jack compartment. You can disable it temporarily by removing the horn fuse, or by unplugging the harness from the brain. Unfortunatly the latter will cut your interior lights, but at least your horn won't sound off everytime you shut off your truck.
