Why does my home gas heater with an electric pilot light ignite the burners then shut down after a couple seconds?

Had this same problem with my gas heater. I took the flame indicator out and cleaned it. Most likely it is in front of your flame or some are part of the whole electronic ignitor assembly. Anyways it will only have one wire hooked to it and looks like a small metal rod. Take it out and clean it up with some steel wool. I bet that fixes your problem.
