the wire could be spliced improperly for the headphones, or the port could not be working. As an IT director, I use xtenda workstation devices to run many workstations off of a single CPU. The problem that I am running into is that the driver software is not compatible or digitally signed, and you only get sound out of one earphone, or no sound at all. How can a speaker work with holes in it?

It can work, but it will not sound good. Any deformations of the cone will "color" the sound, which will sound muddy and not clear. Eventually the speaker will die due to the voice coil dragging in the magnet because the speaker isn't moving correctly. If you have a speaker with a hole in it you should replace it.

Why there is no sound coming from your speakers after you install Windows XP?

Well, it is probably not the Windows operating system that you installed that is at fault. Go to the Control Panel and open your sound settings; you will have to set the settings correctly if they are not. However, when the operating system was installed the settings should have defaulted correctly, but there may be a problem there. Also, of course, make sure the speakers are not defective. Ensure that you have the speaker jack "plugged" into the right port (light green). If you have a 1.5vdc battery and a couple of jumper wires you can test the speaker by connecting the negative bat. terminal to the neg. speaker jack and connecting the other jumper wire to the speaker's positive jack and taking the other end of the positive jumper across the positive battery post and you should hear a screeching noise, if not reverse all leads and retry if there is still no sound then the speaker is no good.

Why does my speaker keep buzzing?

Check your audio cable. Is it plugged into the audio OUT (green) port and not the MIC (red) port or the IN (blue) port? If so, plug it into the OUT (green) port. If it is plugged into the OUT port already, then it's possible that the wire is frayed and you should replace your stereo speakers. If that doesn't help then you might want to get a new sound card or replace the existing one.

What allows us to hear sounds from a computer?

AS the board and CPU execute programs, they send associated sound signals to the sound card on your computer. The sound card converts the digital signal into analogue and sends that signal to the external port(s). Assuming a speaker is plugged in, the signal is carried over wire to the speaker (or headphone) speaker, where a electromagnet is used to move the speaker cone. This produces sound which can be heard.

No, the speaker has a negative and positive port, they both need to be plugged into for it to work. if they aren't, then the speaker will not create sound

What is the purpose of the cone on a speaker?

The cone on the speaker works as a membrane to vibrate and push the air to create sound waves. The pushing action comes from the electromagnetic forces at work when electrical signals come from a sound source when plugged in and into the transducer.

My Mesa boogie dual rectifier solo has no sound and blows fuses?

Sometimes that can happen if it's not plugged into the speaker cabinet, even on the combo's, or maybe it's plugged into the wrong ohmage cabinet : )

Why does a loudspeaker make no sound when a microphone is plugged directly into it?

Because to drive a speaker you need to amplify the current from the microphone. The microphone alone will not generate enough electricity to move the speaker mechanisms.

Can other people hear an electro-acoustic guitar when ear phones are plugged in?

When you're playing with a headset plugged in to your amp, those around you can hear the acoustic guitar itself, but not the sound coming out of the amp, as the headset cancels the sound from coming out the speaker.
