The answer depends somewhat on the year and model of the bike, but overfilling the oil tank is the most common cause.
Other contributing factors include brittle umbrella valves (only certain years), worn or damaged check ball in the oil pump (only certain models), cam type and worn oil pump scavenger gears.
There should be a vent tube just above the in and out oil fittings on trans. It may be hard to see if trans is installed in vehicle.
Too much oil in it, have you hit somthing lately with mower ? timing could be off, rings leaking thru, [blow back] age of engine !
Fluid over full, moisture in the fluid, axle overheating, vent tube installed too low,
Not enough info.
there is a breather tube with a large vent cap on top, pull the vent cap off and the tube is exposed, put oil in the tube. It is located on the right side ( sitting in seat ) of engine just forward of distributer ! Terry !
Did you overfill the oil?
It could be a clogged PVC valve.
always with the bike upright checking on the stand causes it to be over full This then causes the engine breather vent tube inside the oil bag to be under oil then it will blow oil out of gaskets and all vents even push oil cap off tank while riding
If I understand correctly, you're getting oil in the air filter that's building up around the "vent" hole??? That's PROBABLY the crankcase breather pipe and it's an indication that the engine has a LOT of "blow-by". Blow-by is a condition that is typically caused when an engine is not adequately maintained and exhaust gasses leak past the piston into the crankcase. The exhaust gas MUST go somewhere, so engineers provided a breather tube that keeps the oil vapor from getting in the air. But... when an engine has a LOT of "blow-by", the oil will build up on the inside of the air cleaner and make a mess.
That is a vent tube, It let's the pressure out of the differential so it don't blow the grease seals out.
Engine over full, diesel in the oil, excessive blowby.
breather tube from crankcase or valve cover brings blow-by to the air cleaner to reburn. excessive blow by will be heavy with oil in the air.
