I ran into that problem and found that the pump basket needed cleaning and that needle like leaves had gotten beyon that basket and into the pump impeller. I had to remove the metal ring that connected the pump to the pump basket and clean it out. After I did this, the pump was fine. I am a female, and if I could do it you can too.
You measured this? There should be a gauge on your sand filter that shows how much pressure is present. This is measuring how much pessure is needed to force your pool water through a layer of debris and a big pile of sand. For a clean filter, about 15 pounds, or PSI, is normal. This means at least 15 pounds of pressure is halted at the filter. If you want to see the readings without sand, put your filter on recirculate and measure again. You should see a gain in pressure of whatever the filter gauge read when "filter" was selected.
loss of suction can be caused by several things: The skimmer basket(s) need to be cleaned. The pump basket needs to be cleaned. The filter may need to be cleaned. If a sand filter: backwash and rinse the filter thoroughly. There could be an air leak in the Plumbing. Something could be inhibiting the pump from pushing water normally. Check the impeller inside the pump for debris that could be stuck.
If it is a manual vacuum there are 4 things to check
1) Is the vacuum head clogged - If so remove the clog
2) Is the skimmer basket full - If full empty basket
3) Is pump basket full - If so shut pump off and empty basket
4) Does the filter need to be back washed - If yes backwash filter according to manufacturer's directions
If it is an automatic cleaner you should probably call a pool service company they can be very hard to work on and almost impossible to try to walk you through all the issues here.
YOU COULD HAVE A SPRINKLER PUMP(HIGH PREASURE LOW VOLUME) NOT A POOL PUMP(HIGH VOLUME LOW PREASSURE ) OR BAD PARTS INSIDE THE PUMP OR STUFF IN THE IMPELLER AND IT NEEDS TO BE CLEANED OUT
It is getting air someplace, either a small hole in the hose or a bad connection. Hatawa
Could be a connection issue and/or the valve for it is not turned on. Also a dirty water filter could have an effect on suction strength. Or, the pump itself is no longer working properly.
When was the last time you cleaned the pool filter?????
The first question to ask is are you getting suction from the pool, When the sand filter is cleaned the pressure goes down. So the only thing you should worry about is. 1 The filter should be set on filter. you should be getting strong suction from the suction side outlet of the pool. and you should make sure you are not sucking air into the skimmer.
you may have to prime your pump Clean or replace the filter.

Sounds like a leak on the suction side of your equipment.
Most likely it is caused by an air leak somewhere in the system allowing the filter to drain back to the pool through the suction lines. You will probably see DE in the pump pot as well.
The pump sucks water thru pipes that lead to the pool usually one in the bottom called a main drain and one on top at the side called a slimmer then pumps it thru the filter and heater then back to pool.
I just had change my sand filter and it seem working fine, but it doesn't have enough suction at the skimmers, why it does this?
You must have a vac system. Use it to remove the dust. The pool equipment can not do it all you have to help keep the pool clean by vac the pool, adding chemicals, cleaning the tile line etc. A pool is a money pit and labor intensive. You could also have a broken filter element with a D E filter. In that case get the filter repaired.
other than taking the paper filter out everyday and spraying it clean with a hose....nothing. Buy a better filter. It may cost $300-$400, but it will circulate the water faster and make vaccumming easier.
Try these: Check hose for leaks. Check the seal between the hose and the skimmer, The rubber may be old and need replacing. Put your anti suction device in maintenance mode. If pool has two+ skimmers block the unused one with a ball (Tennis or whatever fits and sticks) Bleed air out of the filter if it has accumulated there. Good luck
