Pink for gay, not purple. Hitler used a pink triangle to mark gays in the concentration camps. Taken as a sign as a form of rebellion or defiance. If you embrace what someone is using against you, take it as your own, it takes away any power that person gets from it.
Pink is a symbolic color for some gay people, but otherwise there is no such thing as a "gay" colour.
Many people feel that purple is the international gay colour perhaps because it is a mixture of blue colour, for guys and pink, for girls.
it is purple.... From:Joannie Bouliphanh

Purple is the national GLBT colour in many places around the world to the point that itis very nearly the international GLBT colour.
Yes, I think yellow was the national gay colour a few years back but this year I am pretty sure it's PURPLE. Thanks
No, what defines how a colour will suit a person depends on their hair and skin tone and their physical build. The colour purple itself does not go with or is universally suited to homosexuality.
His Favourite colour is Purple. And by the way haters, he ISN'T gay. :)
purple can represent a lot of things. in old days, purple was used by wealthy people like royalty, lords and such because it was a very expensive ink to get and if you wore it, it showed that you were a wealthy person. now days it is usually seen as the colour that represents gay pride but it can symbolize many other things as well. hope that helps :)
Purple is not specifically associated with being gay. The rainbow flag, which includes various colors including purple, is a symbol of diversity and LGBTQ+ pride. Purple can also be used to represent creativity, spirituality, and individuality.
Purple is the colour regarding lesbians, not so much gays or bisexuals, but it can be used as a blanket color as much as the term "gay" is a blanket term for true gays, lesbians, and bisexuals. Lesbians identify each other by this color as much as someone might say that someone wearing a rainbow ribbon is a member of the LGBT community. Blue tends to be more of a gay color, whereas pink is more a bisexual / lipstick lesbian colour. But in regards to the original question, there is no exact answer as far as I am aware of. It's like saying why is pink a "girl" color and blue a "boy" color? Why is yellow considered neutral? Someone decided that those colors represent those things, and that's the way it is - same goes for the LGBT colors and purple.
In the Gay Community, it is generally accepted to represent Bear Pride/Love.
