If you mean the transmission itself shifts forward, it is because the transmission is suspended, so when the transmission is put in reverse gear the momentum will push the transmission forward.

Now, if the car pulls forward when put in reverse, this means there is a transmission problem. This may just indicate the shift linkages need adjustment, or that the transmission has a major problem and needs repairing. Take it to a shop and have it checked.

Your transmission is gone, you need to rebuild it.

truck will only go forward not in reverse does this mean the transmission is gone

The transmission may not shift or engage in forward or reverse until the car warmed up for a few reasons. Two examples of why the transmission will not engage is low or no fluid levels or a leak.

Most likely your transmission needs replaced.

have your transmission checked, you need a new one.

Do you mean the shifter or car physically does not move? BClear.

If you have an automatic transmission, it probably has a forward clutch/band problem.

When a Mercedes C280 will not move in forward or reverse it is an indication that the transmission is going out or has already gone out in the car. This is true of all cars, not just a Mercedes.

Nothing if you are sitting still. However if you are moving forward and it is an older car, you may be replacing a transmission. Most if not all cars today with and automatic trasnmission have a failsafe to prevent going into reverse while going forward.

This is completely dependent on the space you parked in and the cars around you. OPTIONAL: If the hill is steep you will need to make sure that your car does not roll forward unintentionally by... 1. Applying pressure on the brake with your left foot if your car has an automatic transmission. 2. Applying brake pressure with the emergency brake if you car has a manual transmission. For parallel parking... 1. If there is a car in front of you but not behind you, reverse to a point where you can safely pull forward out of the parking spot without hitting the car in front of you, turn the wheels so they point into the street, and then pull forward out of the parking spot. 2. If there is a car behind you but not in front of you, pull forward out of the parking spot. 3. If there is a car both behind and in front of you, reverse as much as you can without hitting the car behind you, turn the wheels so they point into the street, and then pull forward making sure you have enough room not to hit the car in front of you. If you can not get around the car in front of you continue by turning the wheel of your car towards the curb, reversing as far as you safely can without hitting something, turning the wheel back towards the street, and then pulling forward to leave the parking space. Repeat as many times as is necessary. For standard or diagonal parking... 1. Pull out of the spot the only way that is not obstructed by a parking block, curb, or another vehicle.

A 97 Saturn that stays in forward gears could be one of two problems. Either the electronic transmission controls are stuck in forward, or the internal bands in the transmission have welded themselves together.

Yes, you could severely damage a transmission by shifting into reverse while moving forward. But the odds of the transmission actually going into reverse are not good because there are safety mechanisms in place to prevent it from happening.

The shifter. D is for drive which is forward and R is for reverse. N is for neutral. You have to have the breaks pressed down all the way in order to move out of park and into D or R.

It is probly your transmission.

First thing i would be checking is does the transmission have the rite amount of oil in it.It could be as worse as a snapped transmission converter that goes into the pump on the transmission.(need to take step by step)

The car might have an automatic cut off to either disengage the transmission or cut off the engine. Otherwise you will rip apart the transmission.

If a car jerks forward while in the break position it is not the Automatic Break System but rather the transmission.

what is the problem when the car will not go in drive or reverse? and the transmission fluid is still full

Tranny is shot. The reverse gear in your transmission had burned out

I know on the 06 Z4 you just have to pull toward you a little harder, its kinda spring loaded reverse and first are side by side they do this to keep you from shoving it in reverse on a shift down.

your transmission needs repaired

On the vast majority of modern cars today it is impossible to actually shift to reverse while driving at high speed. Modern transmissions have an override safety device that prevents the transmission from going into reverse at any speed forward that would harm the transmission. You could put the selector in reverse, but the transmission would not shift to reverse. On older transmissions without this feature, you would probably destroy the transmission and possible have an accident.

Most likely the plates or discs in the transmission are stuck together. There is really nothing to be done but repair or replace the transmission. I assume this is an automatic. They tend to fuse together so additives do not help.
