Three tests. 1st, when engine is running, check for exhaust pressure coming out. You can have a bad catalyctic converter, the hotter it gets, it blocks off and causes the engine to overheat and stall out. 2nd, I gather you have checked your coolant level at the radiator cap to be sure you have a full radiator first. Start engine and let run for about 5 minutes (with cap in place), remove cap to see if coolant is circulating, if not you have a bad thermostat, replace. 3rd, if your coolant level seems to be brownish or low often with no visable leaks, check engine oil in morning before starting vehicle. Notice if your level is too high, it could have coolant in the engine from a bad head gasket. another way to verify that is to blot dipstick with a paper towel, if there is water in the oil the water expand up into the towel where as (cold) oil will slowly imbed into the towel. Any engine overheating effects performance, it's best to stop the vehicle before it gets to that stage!
i have a 2004 chevy monte carlo and the service engine soon light is on what does it mean?
thermostat
get the computer scanned to find out what the problem is.
How do you take a rheostat out of a 2003 monte carlo
have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
Something may be wrong with the engine, and you might need to check it.
Changing the brake light switch in your Chevrolet Monte Carlo is quite simple. The brake light switch simply plugs in and out.
unhook a battery cable for about 3 minutes and re-hook.
Take it to a mechanic, and have them erase the codes. Auto zone and advance will not do it as they are not mechanics
Usually a problem in the emission control system - have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
Check engine lights come on for several reasons. I own a 98 Monte and my check engine light comes on alot. It could be any thing from a un clipped sensor, fuse, oil needs changed or checked. Take it to Pep Boys or Autozone they check out your check engine light for free.
No it does not, atleast not the 97 SS
