When you have the heat on and select defrost / demist position to clear your windows , the air conditioning compressor cycles on and off to help de-humidify the air - at least that's the way it is on my 1995.
If you have the heat on in the defrost position , the air conditioning compressor will cycle on and off to help dehumidify the air if the outside temperature is about 50 degrees Fahrenheit or warmer
If you have " defrost " selected the compressor cycles on and off if it's not too cold outside in order to dehumidify the air - that's normal
Most likely, it is a stuck contactor or relay that controls the compressor motor. If the compressor continues to run after the blower inside the house has shut off, the only way to stop it is to kill the power, either at a dedicated switch or sub-panel for the air conditioning, or at your main breaker panel. Turn off the power to the air conditioning and furnace system until you can have the unit serviced.
Compressor will normally run when in defrost mode.
It could happened if air flow trough heat exchanger is not sufficient and to prevent aicing compressor will shut off. Possible reason - clogged air ducts or heat exchanger, when air speed is slow the cooling coil air temp drop, if temp drop below 4c the senor shut off the compresor , when temp rise above 4c it start again
You refer to the heat being cut on, is the blower blowing also and if so it may electrical related like a alternator or battery going bad and the extra load of the blower on th elctrical system may be killing the engine. The other thing that just came to mind is the air conditioning compressors fail and lock up on these vehicels, if the compressor is locking down it may be killing the engine, the compressor does come on with heater operation
To cut off he air to smoother
If it has AC assist and the compressor is shot, cut the belt or disconnect the defrost from the compressor.
There are many reasons why an air conditioning compressor might not turn off. There is likely a wire that is not connected properly.
It is low on freon.
I repelaced the air conditioner compressor and the climate control unit. on the counsel, the compressor still reads, OFF and the air won't come on. is their a way to reset?
Probably low on freon.
