In all versions of The Bible the value of women is less than that of men.

In the third version, the Islamic Koran, there are explicit surahs which evaluate the value asigned to momen, such as in surah 4:176:

"They ask thee for a legal decision. Say: Allah directs (thus) about those who leave no descendants or ascendants as heirs. If it is a man that dies, leaving a sister but no child, she shall have half the inheritance: If (such a deceased was) a woman, who left no child, Her brother takes her inheritance: If there are two sisters, they shall have two-thirds of the inheritance (between them): if there are brothers and sisters, (they share), the male having twice the share of the female. Thus doth Allah make clear to you (His law), lest ye err. And Allah hath knowledge of all things."

Then we get instructions on how to treat women: well. The Hadiths are quite clear why you should treat women well: "Treat women well, for they are [like] domestic animals ('awan) with you". [1] The Koran is a bit more explicit, as surah 4:34 (Men are caretakers of women … you fear rebellion, convince them, and leave them apart in beds, and beat them. Then, if they obey you, do not seek a way against them. Surely, Allah is the Highest, the Greatest.) grants the husband three levels of punishment: admonish, ignore, beat.

Then you get Sharia, Islamic law, which assigns certain rights to women which are greatly reduced to those of men. The majority of women in Pakistani jails are women who were raped and are punished for this sin.

In Saudi, women are not officially allowed to drive a car and in Iran, where I grew up, religion police are fining women whose chador is not closed tight enough.

The only reason we don't get this in non-Islamic countries is that we have advanced to a more secular approach and women have equal rights, where even this is not applied everywhere.

Remember also that Islam is not just a religion it's a system of State, Religion and Law.

This point is probably arguable. Different Islamic countries have different interpretations. In fundamentalist Islamic countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia, certainly not.

Have women lost their rights in some fundamentalist Islamic countries?

Full woman rights are developed and guranteed by the Islam fundametals and basic priniciples as specified and commanded by Quran and prophet Muhammad teachings. Those who deprive the woman from those rights, as fixed by Quran and prophet teachinmgs, should not be called fundamenalists. They are just following the traditions and local practices that are prevailing in those Islamic countries. All woman rights that called for, recently, by the International organizations were given to the woman by Islam in the seventgh century.

Why did the Islamic Republic undermine women?

What do you mean by 'Islamic Republic'? Some countries call themselves 'Islamic Republic of...' (e.g. Iran, Afghanistan), but that doesn't mean that all Muslims agree they abide by all Islamic teachings (or any interpretation of the teachings). Also, Islam gives women many rights indeed (if culture/ misinterpretation/ misunderstanding etc does not always show that...).

What is a goal of most modern-day fundamentalist Islamic societies?

It is unclear what qualifies as a fundamentalist Islamic Society and what counts as a moderate Islamic society. Additionally, fundamentalist Islam is not a monolith, there are a variety of aspects of Islam which can be stretched to become fundamentalist, such as minority rights issues, jihad-war issues, freedom of speech issues, freedom of association issues, freedom of conscience issues, and so on. A fundamentalist group may endorse views that are problematic in one category, but seem perfectly fine in another. As a result, it is difficult to answer. If the Taliban of Afghanistan and Pakistan are used as a prototype of fundamentalist Islam, their goals are quite clear. They intend to create a society that is based entirely on the most militant and antiquated reading of Islamic Law or Shari'a. Shari'a, like Islam, is not a monolith and there are Islamic Scholars who claim that the numerous Human Rights are part of the Shari'a. The Taliban disagree. They have been extremely repressive towards women (preventing them from getting an education, endorsing honor killings, and throwing acid in their faces), anyone who professes a faith other than Sunni Islam (especially Shiites), anyone who commits a moral or legal infraction (the death penalty is quite common), and anyone who tries to associate and freely discuss the situation and their views.

There are some countries in the world, such as Saudi Arabia, in which men have more rights than women do. In other countries, such as the US, the legal rights of both sexes are exactly the same.
