How do you remove a transmission on a Ford F150 4X4?

Just look at the transmission and see what needs to come off. First, start with the drive shaft, then the transfer case, and then the front cross member holding up the front axle (or shift on the fly hub locker). Tie up the transfer case to the cross member that is right behind it because at this time you can not take it out. You can leave the locking hub in place. The reason for taking the cross member down is to get the front drive shaft out. Next, take off the starter due to the fact the starter bolts go through the transmission bell housing. Right now you should be looking at a bare transmission mounted to the engine block and a cross member supporting the transmission. Next get a transmission jack to support the rear of the transmission before you start to remove the cross member bolts. After the cross member is out and the transmission is supported, crack every bolt but don't take them out. Start by taking out the hardest to get at bolts first and work your way around. Lleave in one bolt on each side of the transmission bell housing until you are ready to drop the transmission out of the truck. Make sure all the wires are disconnected from each side. There are 3 plugs and you need to disconnect the shifter cable and the 4x4 shifter rod. If you have an electronic 4x4 then there is one more plug. The transmission should just drop out and the torque converter will still be attached to the flywheel. There is a wrench that will fit the end of the converter. Be careful not to strip the nuts on the back of the flywheel, between the engine block and flywheel because if you do it isn't going to come off.

How do you change a 1968 firebird clutch?

I've never done this with the engine in the car, but I think this is how it should go. This applies to manual transmissions only. (1) Remove the retainers on the yoke, at the rearend, that hold the drive line in place. Then push the drive line forward, move it out of the yoke, then pull it rearward out of the transmission. (2) Support the rear of the engine so it can not rock backwards when the transmission is detached. (3) Remove the shift lever and remove the two bolts that hold the transmission to the cross member. (4) Remove the four bolts attacking the cross member to the frame. Rotate the cross member to remove. You may need to raise the rear of the engine slightly to take pressure off the cross member. (5) Remove the four bolts attaching the transmission to the bell housing. Be sure to support the transmissions with a floor jack or something, they can be heavy. Then safely remove the transmission. (7) Remove the spring and linkage connecting to the the throw out fork. (8) Next remove the 6 bolts holding the bell housing to the rear of the engine, then remove the bell housing. (9) Remove the bolts holding the pressure plate to the flywheel. You should now be able to remove the pressure plate and clutch disc. (10) Install the new clutch disc with a line up shaft. (11) Install the pressure plate and torque the bolts to the suggested torque. (Generally 25 to 40 ft-lbs.) (12) You will probably want to replace the throw out bearing also while you have the bell housing removed. (12) Remove the line up shaft, replace and secure the bell housing. (13) Reconnect the clutch linkage and spring. (14) The rest of the process is the reverse of removal.

to start you need to get a transmission jack, jack and jack stands you need about 3 feet of clearance to get the transmission out and back in. then disconnect all electrical to the transmission then disconnect the shifter linkage. take out the catalytic converters. take out the cross member. take out the starter. take out the drive line. remove dust cover from bell housing remove nuts that hold torque converter on and disconnect the transmission cooler lines (make sure you have a drip pan) take out the bell housing bolts and slide transmission back about 2 inches and lower the jack. to install do the all the steps in reverse.
