I had this problem about 3 years ago, with 124,000 miles on my truck. The bad news here is that your transmission is most likely on the fritz. If your truck is making a very loud, almost vacuum like. noise I would recommend having the transmission rebuilt. This is pricey, but your truck will run like new again. I also added an external transmission cooler, to prevent future problems - even though I have the factory "towing package" which includes an internal tranny cooler. I wish I had added the cooler sooner, as my transmission runs much smoother than it ever did. I still have not had a single problem since the rebuild, and have about 162,500 miles on my truck now. Good luck.
located in the transmission oil pan. unbolt pan and it will be visible. may want to drain transmission first though. = )
An automatic transmission might be slow shifting from first to second because of low transmission fluid. You might also have damaged the gears in the transmission at the area between first and second.
My 1984 corvette transmission is not shifting into overdrive. It shifts first thru third fine.
The first two things to check would be the transmission fluid level, and have it checked for codes. A lot of transmission problems will set trouble codes.
buying a dodge was your first mistake
First thing to check is fluid level. Check at idle in park. Next you will need to have it checked for transmission codes(requires a scan tool). Third the dealer might be able to update the software in the transmission computer.
Be sure the vacuum supply line from the engine to the transmission vacuum modulator is not disconnected.
not g6yft you take the 318 out first
Bad syncro in the transmission, mainly bad transmission. Hard shifting can cause the problem. Transmission can be rebuild or syncro replaced possibly might be cheaper just to get a new one from the junk yard. dont race a stock transmission on a 92 eclipse.
You must first find and fix tranny fluid leak, then list symptoms if problem occurs with proper type of fluid at proper level.
There are several things that can cause your manual transmission not to shift out of first gear or reverse. The most common cause is a broken shifting fork.
First, check transmission fluid levels, but typically once you loose a full gear, if the fluids topped off, your looking at a transmission rebuild.
