Bad news, sounds like a head gasket. The coolant is blown out because the exaust is going into the water passage. The heater is cold because there is not enough water to reach it. Your temp. gauge should be hot very quickly. Take the radiator cap off, stand back, and crank the motor. If water shoots out, it's a headgasket, cracked head, or cracked block.
Thermostat sticking. Replace thermostat and gasket.
check your antifreeze and water...maybe water pump too.check for a thermostat that is not closing ,.in other words a faulty thermostat
have the radiator cap pressure tested
Check the coolant system to make sure you have enough antifreeze. Also is your thermostat working?
check the antifreeze
If your heater blower is blowing enough air, then look too see that you have enough antifreeze in the radiator. If the antifreeze is all the way up then check your thermostat ,it may be stuck or partially opened.
There is really no good way to prevent this from happening other than making sure you have a proper supply of coolant/antifreeze in your system and a properly working thermostat. Overheating is a great way to warp the head and then blowing the gasket.
Sounds like the thermostat is stuck open. Replace the thermostat.
Well the lack of a thermostat is a good reason for the heat to not work, it will also cause the engine to be too cool in the winter and overheat in the summer( put it back ). The coolant is blowing back through the overflow because your radiator cap is bad, or there is a leak in the head gasket and exhaust or compression pressure is enterng the coolant system. I would check the cap first.
Replace Thermostat
blown head gasket. you areburning your antifreeze
a faulty thermostat control
