because wood is carbon neutral, it takes C02 in from the atmosphere and stores it so when it is burned the carbon dioxide is just released into the atmosphere again and can be used for photosynthesis for other plants. you can re grow trees quickly to get wood but coal takes hundreds of thousands of years to form.

Why is waste coal good for the environment?

It makes people switch to new fuel sources. It leaves less pollution in the ground. It makes less air pollution in Poland. It cleans the coal so there is no waste.

Which fossil fuel causes the least pollution when it burns?

== == Natural gas is the cleanest. It produces the least amount of carbon dioxide per unit of energy released than the other fossil fuels like coal and oil. To get the same amount of heat, natural gas produces 30% less CO2 than burning oil, and about 45% less than burning coal.

How will you show that air is essential for burning fuel?

You may put some burning fuel (as a piece of coal or some gasoline, etc..) under an airtight pot connected to vacuum system to suck air. You notice on sucking the air the diminishing of the burning until got completely off. Even if you don't such the air, the burning will get less and less due to the consumption of the limited Oxygen inside the pot.

When you turn off a light how does it help global warming?

When you turn off a light you are helping slow global warming by using less electricity. Most electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas). This burning releases carbon dioxide, which is causing global warming.

Why are there social and political problems associated with fossil fuels?

The US has one of the richest beds of fossil fuels, namely bituminous coal. The geological region called The Pittsburgh Coal Seam extends through many States, including PA, WVA, OH, IN, ILL, and KY. Bituminous coal is a cheap fuel that burns hot. It was used exclusively in home / business heating (coal furnaces), and coal or coke (made from coal) fueled Mills and Factories. The US also has a seam of anthracite coal, which burns less hot and is less preferred over bituminous coal. However, burning coal is dirty. It produces air pollution that contains numerous chemicals. The coal dust from burning the coal can exist in homes/buildings for a century or longer. Coal dust leads to or aggravates many lung diseases. It is a risk to public health, as well as the health of the planet. Social-health concerns often conflict with political concerns, especially in States and Districts that have a high percent of coal miners. Workers risk losing their jobs if society turns away from coal as fuel.

How is coal used?

The main use of coal is in the creation of electricity via burning to power generators. Another less prevalent use of coal is in home heating with coal stoves.

Why coke is better than coal?

Coke is a pure form of carbon and produce very less smoke on burning as compared to coal

Does Nuclear energy produce more carbon dioxide than burning coal?

No. It produces less.

What is the difference between low and high quality coal?

Low quality coal tends to be slow burning, smoky and produce a lot of ash. High quality coal burns better and is less smoky and produces less ash.

What fuel releases fewer pollutants then burning coal or oil?

Natural gas is the cleanest burning of the fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas). It emits less greenhouse gas than the other two.

Which is the cleanest-burning fossil fuel?

Natural gas (methane (CH4)) is the cleanest burning, emitting less carbon dioxide than the others (coal and oil).

How might recycling coal waste help the environment in Poland?

It leaves less pollution in the ground

What effect does loft insulation have on the environment?

Loft insulation prevents loss of heat from your house. So you use less energy to heat your house. As most of our energy still comes from the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas), and because this burning releases carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas causing global warming, then loft insulation has a good effect on the environment.

What can be done for coal to be environmental friendly?

There is talk of carbon catchers to block and hold released carbon, but there is still not any implemented technology that makes burning coal any less pollutant.

Why should people use more or less of coal?

People should use less of coal because coal mines have dangerous gases sulfur oxide and methane that causes mines to explode and the gases that can also poison humans. Plus burning coal can cause a disease that causes animals to swell up to 5 times their normal size.
