I had my check engine light come on in my 96 T'bird and I stopped at Autozone to get it checked. I got the P1443 error as well, and it said probable causes were: 1. Failed EVAP pressure sensor 2. Blocked hose between purge valve and FTP sensor 3. EVAP purge valve stuck closed I have read from others that say it could be just a cracked hose as well.

To find the malfunction you have to have the sytem scanned by an OBDII scanner tool for the trouble code(s). AutoZone and similar auto supply stores offer free scans.
