Feminism is more important in places like Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia where women are regularly treated as second class citizens than in Western Europe or the United States where women have equal legal rights to men.
Feminism is still relevant today for numerous reasons. There is still a pay gap between women and men in the United States. Rape is still a legitimate weapon to silence women, and is used against women during war as a tool to demoralize the opposition. Most rapes go unreported because women scared to report rapes because they will be accused as having "asked for it," or be told that it wasn't really raped. The court system in the U.S. is still biased in rape cases, and rape culture is pervasive globally. Women are still in the minority in U.S. government, and most, if not all, governments across the world, as well as in big business. Women are not equally represented in the media. From birth, genders are segregated, and girls are given pink dolls to take care of, while being taught to be quiet, motherly, and passive, while boys are given toys to build with like Legos, and taught to be strong and assertive. Women's reproductive rights are still under attack, with issues like abortion and comprehensive sex education. This is just a quick overview of some of the reasons why women are still not valued as much as men, and why, therefore, feminism is still relevant today.
