It depends on the values that people have. Discrimination and bigotry are learned behaviors that usually come from the home as a person grows up. It is also cultural and in some areas it is considered a matter of course to not see others as equal. As a culture messages are given in various ways. In the 1950's women were portrayed with heels, all dressed up doing housework. They were not seen as independent working women. The names given to teams is another example or if you look at old world maps you will see that Africa and South America are shown smaller than Europe, US, and Canada. Yet, they are larger. This is cultural bias and filters down into individual views of the world.
