Maybe he likes you as a friend, but isn't interested in or ready for a romantic relationship. Or maybe he is interested. But either way, maybe the pressure of being alone with someone, when he doesn't know them that well and probably doesn't know himself that well either, frightens him. Especially if he's young, he may not know what to make of all the signals and sensations going on in his body and mind, and of all the instructions, warnings, and enticing messages he's heard from parents, friends, billboards, and culture in general, and not knowing what to do may make him quite tongue-tied and uncomfortable, thus his quick exit.
