If you are having problemsupdating your anti-virus software, you may have been infected with a virus. This is certainly not the only possibility, but definitely a possibility. There are many viruses that purposefully disable anti-virus products from updating themselves (i.e. Conficker). You might try to run a virus scan with another utility. HouseCall from Trend Micro is one such utility. You can scan your system for viruses from their website without installing an entire anti-virus utility. You can get there here: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ It is also possible that your anti-virus software is just damaged. If that is the case, it might be helpful to go to Symantec's support site, and seach their knowledgebase for the error you are getting. If the problem is restricted to auto update go to the website and download the update patch directly to install. Alternatively if the connection is on in the Safe mode assuming it is a PC try to update. More importantly go to a reputable forum and get your computer cleaned.
