Your battery does not supply electrical power to the vehicle it simply stores it. The alternator is what recharges (replenishes) the power used during cranking.
You need to have your charging system checked to verify the alternator is working and at the same time you need to have the battery diagnosed as draining your battery completely repeatedly can cause premature failure.
Rechargeable batteries usually last 300 to 500 cycles which is when a battery is at 100%, then is drained to 0% and charged again. Even if you do not drain it completely and recharge the battery, it is still considered a cycle.
If the lights in the car come on, then at least part of the system is getting power. Check the battery connections again. Then check the starter solenoid and starter to insure that they are getting power and are working properly.
If you charge the battery up and it will run and start for a while and then dies again you know its not getting charged. If you charge the battery up or jump it off and it is dead again the first time you cut it back off its a bad battery.
It's called laminitis. it is usually caused by poor feeding and has to be soaked and drained.
Even a new battery cannot start and run the vehicle for long without the charge it needs from the alternator. The battery has a certain amount of reserve power meant to start the vehicle only, then the power supplied by the alternator keeps a constant flow of power going to the battery to keep it charged enough to run the electrical system of the car. The electrical system, especially in late model vehicles pulls a large amount of electricity, so without that constant flow to replace the high draw, the battery is drained of its reserve. If you have driven the vehicle with a malfunctioning alternator, then parked it, chances are there is just not enough power to turn the vehicle over and start it again, as it has been drained completly. If you charged the battery on a charger, it would,(if a bad alternator is your problem)start and run the vehicle again, but just until the battery is drained.
They get recharged for another use! The electricity from the charge causes certain chemical reactions to take place which are in reverse of what happened as the battery drained. Then the process can happen all over again.
My 2003 KIA Optima car will not start and my battery is drained after charging it... When I tried to start it again I here no clicks or noise....Need to know where is the starter located on the car...
The check engine light only comes on if there's a problem with suction (i.e. you filled the gas tank with the car running or left the gas cap open and drove. You can't reset it, you have to unhook the battery. If it comes on again, unhook the battery again. If it comes on a 3rd time, I'd see the dealer.
The Battery? No, not typically the battery. That means that the alternator is not charging the battery and IF the engine is running, it's getting all of it's electrical energy from the battery. It means that once the battery charge is depleted, the engine won't run again until you recharge the battery.
You can use a rechargeable battery over and over again.
When a battery is slowly drained over a long period such as by a stereo memory or a clock,a type of corrosion accumilates between the battery post and the terminals that will diminish the voltage carrying ability of the wire, and your battery is probably bad as well. Before buying a new one have it checked for voltage and draw. Before reinstalling it clean the inside of the battery terminal connectors and the battery posts so that you have clean and shiny lead. When you are finished running the vehicle and are going to leave it alone again disconnect one of the battery terminals so there is no draw on it.
Don't believe a word AutoZone tells you. My battery died so I went there and they tested my battery and alternator and told me it was the battery. So I bought a new battery and 2 days later, dead again. Went back and they tested again and THIS time, it was the alternator. I went nuts on them and ended up getting both my battery AND alternator for free for their mistake that left me stranded at 12am.
