Vapor barrier under flooring is a 20 lbs felt paper or red Rosin paper both types Can be naught at Lowe's or home depot
I doubt either is necessary on second floor. Rosin paper is cheaper than felt. I would probably use either #15 or #30 felt.
You should always use an underlayment for hardwood floors. Use either Red Rosin paper or 15lb Fortifiber hardwood underlayment. Fortifiber is recommended, heavy duty and better quality vapor barrier.
This is a point is debated among those who install flooring. Bruce Hardwood Flooring, the leading hardwood seller in America states felt paper or red rosin in unnecessary for installation of a nail or staple down floor. There are those who believe it acts as a vapor barrier. The issue with that thought is, if you need a vapor barrier over your wood subfloor, you shouldn't be installing wood anyway. Some believe it will reduce the squeaks in the floor. This would be a hard thing to say for sure. If this is a concern, you may want to. One thing that red rosin does do for sure is make flooring easier to install. You can more easily slide boards together and across the floor. The paper reduces the friction against the subfloor.
It will dry just fine... after you remove the flooring...
Under no circumstances should a steam cleaning devise be used on a hardwood or laminate floor! Steam is essentially hot water. Water will damage your beautiful wood flooring. Consumers should contact their flooring manufacturer for safe cleaning methods and products.
Pergo is a Swedish flooring product company noted primarily for its laminate flooring products. Pergo invented laminate flooring in the 1970s and began selling laminate flooring in the United States in 1994 under the leadership of then-president Lars von Kantzow. Even though there are many manufacturers of laminate flooring products today, many people refer to all laminate flooring as "pergo". In addition to its laminate products, Pergo introduced hardwood products into the U.S. market beginning in 2004 and will introduce similar hardwood products in Europe in 2007.
Rosin paper is commonly used to cover wooden floors to protect them from dust and debris during construction. Only blue painter's tape should be used when taping rosin paper down to cover a floor. Rosin paper should never be used on stairs because it creates a slipping hazard. Painter's tape is used on wooden floors because it has a weaker adhesive so that its removal will not mar the finish of the underlying wood. Because of the weak adhesive, painter's tape is unsuitable to attach rosin paper to steps. Under no circumstances should ordinary tape, such as clear Scotch tape, be used.
Yes. there is usually an underlayment under vinyl, so it sometimes gives you a height issue.

Hardwood floors in general tend to be more expensive than other types of flooring (like tile or vinyl), with Macassar ebony tending to be the most expensive kind of hardwood flooring per square foot (often reaching $150 or more). Oak flooring is generally considered affordable and, with a little searching, can be found for under a dollar per square foot.
The average professionally completed refinishing job including labor costs $3.32 to $3.70 per square foot in 2014. This works out to $2,656 to $2,960 to refinish 800 square feet of hardwood floors. If you have a larger area, the cost will go up.
Most people just put 15-lb roofing felt under it.
