History. Canada is a place of trees, and was one of the first resources to be exported. The other was fish but fish does not warm your heart on a cold winters day like a maple fire, some maple syrup, or maple sugar cookies

Canada had just the right climate for maple syrup. To the south of us it was too warm, to the north too cold. As a result Canada quickly became a producer of Maple Syrup. It is a part of our culture dating back hundreds of years.

And that makes it a natural symbol for Canada.

There are many things that Canadians can get from Maple trees:

  • Maple sap, which is made into sugar and syrup
  • Maple wood, which is a popular wood for many things like Bowling alleys, furniture, Musical Instruments, smoking meat, etc.
  • Environmental benefit of live trees, which help with honeybee survival
  • Economic benefit from tourists coming to see the multicolored leaves in fall, and hobbies such as growing ornamental trees as well as bonsai.
