It's important for several reasons. The primary one is that He promised He would. His integrity and credibility are on the line. (See John 14:2,3.)

From a human standpoint, His return halts the mathematically certain extinction of all mankind.

Matthew 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

Matthew 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

His return will also mark the beginning of a genuinely "new world order." (See Isaiah 9:6,7; Isaiah 24:23; Micah 4:2; Zechariah 14:16-18; Revelation 19:15.)

His arrival will mark the close of the dispensation of "amazing grace, " where mankind has had the opportunity to be "saved"/ "born again"/ "born from above"/accept Jesus as your savior"/ AND to be resurrected AND to reign with Him for the thousand years immediately following. (Revelation 20:4,5.)

Jesus Christ's first coming... and His second one - will ultimately fulfill God's Promises to Abraham: [the Promises of the Government of God established on earth and the Salvation of man from the wicked spirit realm to which this present world is subject - see Heb.2:5]. Otherwise, God's Promises would have remained unfulfilled forever.

The world is blinded to God's seven-phase plan, which His seven annual Holy Day feasts reveal to those able to see their intent. God's annual feasts are divided into "two main parts" -- the early "spring harvest"... and the more abundant "fall harvest."

Jesus' first coming fulfilled [and continues to fulfill] the first part, that begins with the Passover; which has always pointed to the Messiah's death. The "Lamb of God's" Divine Sacrifice of Himself for the remission of the sins and the redemption of His creation.

Convicted men have been placing their "Faith" in that sacrifice ever since Jesus "fulfilled" it. And some men have been observing all the Passovers since then with the "bread and wine" [body and blood] symbols in REMEMBRANCE of Christ's sacrifice to this day.

The rejection of Christ by His own people, the Jews, opened the door for all of the families and nations of man to be adopted into the family of Faithful Abraham, with whom God established His Promises and Divine Oath:

"...in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed." (Gen.12:3)

Jesus' coming was and is important to the ultimate removal of sin [disobedience to God's Laws - see I John 3:4; from the earth. His first coming started the ball rolling... which had to begin with Jesus' brutal death [His spilled Divine Blood] at the hands of His creation.

From there [and actually before then; with Abel, Enoch, Moses, Abraham, etc]... Jesus' Father has given Jesus certain people from among the generations of man, whom He is calling out of the world to grow and develop in Righteous Character, and to train to co-rule Christ's Government on the earth with Him when He comes the second time. [see Rev.20:4-6]

This period of "training" for God's "called-out-ones" for these future Government Leadership Positions has been going on since "Abel." But until Jesus Christ came in the flesh to qualify Himself worthy to be the future King of God's Government on earth by defeating Satan in the famous [if not misunderstood] "temptation" account... God's Promises to Abraham would have gone on forever unfulfilled.

But He did come. And God's plan continues on schedule. The Father continues to call out, and "is accepting applications for Kingdom rulership positions"... His Son continues to protect, teach and train these applicants in those positions... and when all of the positions are filled, the Father will inform His Son that all the offices, jobs and positions are filled... and that His Kingdom is ready to be established on earth.

That's when Jesus will return... with a full contingent of qualified world leaders who will rule the world and teach the nations the ways of God.

And it will be then that Jesus Christ will fulfill the last of His Promises to Abraham -- the Last of which will be "the Last Great Day": Judgment Day.

"Now on the Last Day, that Great Day of the Feast, Jesus stood up and cried in a loud voice: 'If any man thirst LET HIM COME TO ME and drink. From the heart of him WHO BELIEVES IN ME will flow, and the Scripture said, Rivers of Living Water.' Now He said this concerning the Spirit that those who believed in Him should receive. For the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus had not yet been Glorified." (John 7:37-39 MNT Montgomery New Testament)

God is in the process of removing "sin" [disrespect, rebellion and disobedience to His Laws] that Satan and his demons originated in the universe in the beginning. He presently has sin confined to planet earth where Satan and his demons were cast, and are awaiting that Last Great Day of God's plan [see Jude 1:6].

It was important for Jesus to come, to begin to fulfill the Promises to Abraham and the plan of His Father... the removal of "sin" and its wages, "death," from the universe... so that His future Children and Divine, Immortal Family [the future Family of God; His Family of Creators] might finally begin to colonize and recreate the universe that was damaged by that "war in heaven" [Rev.12:7] so long ago.

And it's important for Jesus to return to fulfill the last four phases of His Father's plan... so that the "New Beginning" for His Immortal Family may commence:

"...'Behold, I AM MAKING ALL THINGS NEW.' And He said to me, 'Write this, for these Words are Trustworthy and Genuine.' ... He who overcomes [successfully overcomes the tests and trials and character training of this wicked world through Faith in God's Word] will inherit these, and I will be his God, and HE SHALL BE MY SON.'" (Rev.21:5-7 MNT)

This world has no clue as to the importance of Jesus' coming the first time... nor of the desperate need for His return.

"For that will be a time of greater Horror than anything the world has ever seen or will ever see again. In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE WILL BE DESTROYED. But it will be shortened for the sake of God's Chosen Ones." (Matt.24:21-22 NLT New Living Translation)

The coming of Our Blessed Savior was incredibly important as this fulfilled all the prophecies of Him in the Old Testament, brought the time of waiting to a close, and began the Final Days of the Christian Church. He gives us strength in the sacraments to overcome our sins, and to follow Him on the narrow steep road to heaven that only a few find.

What did Jews say about second coming of Jesus?

They simply did not believe in it. They were looking for a Messiah to save the nation from the Roman oppression (Luke 1.74,75); not a Saviour such as Jesus. They thought Jesus was simply a prophet, but some believed he was a devil, so if they did not believe in his first coming, how should they believe in his second coming?
